Powtoon
Topic: Digital Citizenship
Powtoon is a handy resource to quickly make short animations and videos. The customization options allow for creativity.
The above example discusses the property of electronegativity and how it trends on the periodic table. The idea is to use it as a teaser or ice-breaker for the lesson. Electronegativity plays an important role and affects a myriad of other properties including its solubility, melting/boiling points, what intermolecular forces a molecule experience, and more.
PowToon was helpful in creating this primer. The learning curve is not steep and I got the hang of making transitions and animations within an hour of using it. There are several transitions, images, and backgrounds that are free and available, but a paid version does open a lot more options.
The interface is simple enough that this would be useful for assignments. One could have their students create an animation covering a topic without being bogged down as one would with a professional editor. Powtoon is useful for both lesson content and as assignments.
If used as an assignment, then developing a rubric would probably be best for assessing the student's work.
