Wordle & Infographic

Topic: Creativity

This word cloud was created using Tag Croud. I found an open textbook online at OpenStax and copy/pasted the second chapter, titled Atoms, Molecules, and Ions. This shows how oftent each word is used in the chapter (after paring down the common words like the, and, a, and so on).

The idea is to use this as a poster for the students to refer to. They will be learning a lot of new vocabulary and this poster can help add weight to these new words. Notice that atom, compounds, elements, mass, and molecules are all larger than the others. These are used a lot in chemistry.

Word clouds are an effective way of conveying concepts, either by showing word counts like the one above or by artfully displaying words connected to the concept. It can help with lessons or students can create their own. This would be a useful tool to assess a student's understanding of a concept since word clouds are basically informal concept maps.

This infographic was designed using Canva and it highlights the different glassware that students will most likely be using. There are a lot of different tools used in chemistry and within glassware, there are dozens and dozens of different tools. It is easy to get these mixed up by name as well as by function. This infographic helps distinguish the different glassware and their actual use.

This would be best used as a poster for the lab. Students can look to the poster as a reminder of what each piece is called until they get more comfortable. Since this is a resource and not part of an assignment, student assessment is not applicable.
